Cash for Scrap Cars in Ladner: How Offers Work

Turn the vehicle taking up your driveway into money. Describe it by phone, hear the offer, and get paid before it's loaded.

How your offer is worked out

Every vehicle is different, so we don't advertise a fixed price or a guaranteed amount. Offers are based mainly on:

  • Year, make and model — some vehicles have more reusable parts or material value than others.
  • Completeness — whether the engine, transmission, wheels and other major parts are still in place matters most.

What doesn't by itself lower a quote: a mouldy interior, or a car that ran when parked three years ago but doesn't start now. We buy old vehicles — we expect them to be old. What can change an offer is describing a vehicle as complete when significant parts are actually missing.

How payment works

Once you accept the offer and a pickup is booked, payment is settled with you before the vehicle is loaded. Ask which payment method applies when you call.

If something on site differs significantly from the description — undisclosed missing parts, for example — that will be discussed with you before anything changes. No vehicle leaves without your agreement.

Before you sell

  • Have proof of ownership ready — the vehicle should be yours to sell, or you need the owner's authority.
  • Remove personal belongings from the glovebox, trunk and under the seats.
  • Remove your licence plates and cancel or transfer your insurance afterwards.
  • Someone else can be present to hand over keys and provide access, but the sale requires the owner's authorization and paperwork.

Confirm the offer, then get ready

Before pickup

Before pickup, keep registration or proof of ownership, valid authorization and keys together. Remove belongings and plates where safe, and discuss any significant parts you wish to retain before changing the vehicle. Jay carries tools and can help with stubborn plate screws without guaranteeing every bolt. Clear access and disclose years of parking or blackberry growth.

During pickup

Jay verifies the vehicle, legal seller and documents, checks access and pays before loading. Missing significant parts that were not disclosed may affect the offer; mould inside or no-start after years parked does not by itself lower it. A winch is used only where safe and feasible, and the vehicle is secured on an insured tow truck, never driven unsafely on roads.

After pickup

Keep plates and sale paperwork. Ask an ICBC Autoplan broker about insurance cancellation or transfer and registration obligations as appropriate. Do not assume payment and collection automatically complete those matters.

Questions before you book

What information gives Jay a useful starting point for an offer?

Call with the year, make and model, condition and whether the vehicle is complete. Identify missing major parts or wheels rather than attempting a detailed mechanical diagnosis. Add the exact pickup location and access so towing can be discussed at the same time. Jay personally serves Ladner, Tsawwassen and the listed neighbourhoods. An offer is specific to your car, SUV, pickup or minivan; there is no guaranteed dollar amount for every vehicle.

Why do completeness and make or model matter to the quote?

They identify the vehicle being bought for recycling and what is actually included in the sale. Tell Jay if the engine, transmission, wheels or significant components have been removed, or if you plan to keep something before pickup. A nearly empty shell should not be described as a complete car. Condition information is useful, but guessed repair costs are not a substitute for explaining which major parts are physically present.

Will a mouldy interior or no-start engine reduce my agreed price?

Not by itself. Jay understands old vehicles, including a car that ran when parked three years ago and no longer starts now. Those facts alone do not justify lowering the quote at pickup. An offer may change if undisclosed significant parts or wheels are missing after a complete vehicle was described. Say what you know upfront, and discuss any discrepancy before agreeing a changed price or having the vehicle loaded.

Is free towing separate from the amount I am offered?

Discuss both the purchase amount and towing terms on the call. Standard towing is free for eligible complete vehicles purchased for recycling, but not for all unwanted vehicles or every recovery. A blocked approach, soft ground or difficult extraction can require assessment and a separate cost. Confirm what applies before booking so the agreed offer is not confused with an assumption that any type of recovery is included.

Exactly when is the money paid?

Payment is settled before the vehicle is loaded, after Jay confirms the description, legal seller and paperwork. You are not expected to wait until the car has been towed away. Ask which payment method applies when you call, rather than assuming a method that has not been confirmed. If missing components change the description materially, that discussion belongs before payment and loading, with your agreement required to proceed.

Can another person accept the offer and meet the truck?

They can provide access and hand over keys, but accepting or completing the sale requires the owner’s authority and proper paperwork. Have registration or proof of ownership and valid authorization ready, and discuss who will attend with Jay. This matters whether the car is in Ladner Village or at another served location. Do not assume anyone standing beside the vehicle can sell it merely because they have the keys.

What should I remove before selling the vehicle?

Take out personal belongings, passes and garage door openers, and discuss any aftermarket item you want to retain before removing it. Keep documents and keys ready. Remove plates where safe; Jay carries tools and can help with stubborn screws but cannot promise every damaged bolt will come out. Clear access and disclose long parking or overgrowth. Avoid removing significant parts after agreeing a quote without first discussing the change.

What should I keep once I have been paid and the car is gone?

Retain the sale paperwork and plates, then contact an ICBC Autoplan broker about insurance cancellation or transfer and any registration obligations appropriate to your situation. A purchase and tow-truck collection do not themselves confirm those separate matters are finished. Purchased vehicles are transported on an insured tow truck, so expired road insurance is okay for towing; that does not replace getting advice about what to do with your coverage afterward.
