Driveways vs. rural access

A standard driveway pickup and a vehicle parked on rural property are different jobs for a tow truck. When you call, be specific about which one applies:

  • Residential driveway or street: usually straightforward — confirm the truck can park and load safely.
  • Farm lane, yard or field: mention ground conditions, gates, ditches and how far the vehicle is from a solid surface. Soft ground after rain can change the approach.
  • Long-parked vehicles: flat tires and seized brakes are common and worth mentioning so the right loading method is planned.

Confirming the practical approach in advance is how free standard towing stays free — unusual recovery needs are quoted separately, before anything is booked.

Retired farm and work pickups

East Ladner's rural roads see plenty of pickups that have simply worked their last shift. We buy retired Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, Dodge/Ram and Toyota trucks. Describe the truck honestly — what's missing, whether it rolls, where it sits — and you'll get an honest offer and a clear answer on towing.

Questions before you book

How should I describe an East Ladner or Holly pickup location?

Jay personally serves East Ladner and Holly. Tell him the exact pickup location and whether the vehicle is on a residential driveway or farther into a rural property. Describe gates, the surface under the car and the route a tow truck would take, rather than assuming a street address explains everything. Combine that with the year, make, model, condition and missing parts so both the offer and practical approach can be assessed.

Do you buy retired work pickups as well as commuter cars?

Eligible unwanted pickups, cars, SUVs and minivans can be purchased for recycling. A retired work truck does not have to run to be considered. Say what it is and whether the engine, transmission, wheels and significant body parts remain. Also describe anything that affects loading, such as flat tires or seized wheels. Purchase eligibility and the offer depend on the vehicle, while access determines whether standard towing is appropriate.

Does sitting outside for years automatically reduce the quote?

No. Jay does not reduce a quote simply because an interior is mouldy or a vehicle that ran when parked now refuses to start. Long storage is still useful information for loading: wheels may not roll and vegetation may block the approach. Missing major parts or wheels that were not disclosed can affect the offer. Separate what is physically missing from what merely no longer works when describing the vehicle.

Is a farm-yard pickup in East Ladner a standard free tow?

It may be, but a rural location needs a practical assessment. Free standard towing applies to eligible complete vehicles Jay buys for recycling. Describe firm or soft ground, distance from a workable truck position, gates and obstructions. A car deep in a field or requiring difficult recovery may involve a separate cost. Confirm feasibility and terms first; do not attempt to drag the vehicle nearer a road to make it appear accessible.

What if blackberries or other growth surround the vehicle?

Tell Jay before pickup, along with how long the vehicle has been parked and what can be seen of its wheels and approach. A winch may be used only where safe and feasible; overgrowth alone is not proof that a recovery will work. Do not crawl into thorny growth or under an unstable vehicle to inspect it. Explain what you can see safely so the recovery needs can be assessed before a truck is sent.

What should I have ready before the truck comes?

Collect registration or proof of ownership, valid sale authorization and keys if you have them. Remove personal belongings and plates where safe, then clear movable obstacles from the approach. Jay can help with stubborn plate screws using tools he carries, without promising success for every bolt. Let him know if gates are locked or another vehicle blocks access. A helper can provide entry, but cannot authorize the sale without the owner’s authority.

Will Jay drive a truck or car away if its insurance has expired?

No. Purchased vehicles are secured and transported on an insured tow truck; Jay never drives an unsafe scrap car on public roads. Expired road insurance on the vehicle is okay for towing. Do not start or drive a questionable vehicle across a property just to position it for pickup. Tell Jay if the keys are missing, steering is locked or wheels are seized so he can discuss a safe loading approach.

When does payment happen, and what should I keep afterward?

At arrival Jay verifies the vehicle, legal seller and paperwork and checks access. You receive payment before loading, not after the truck has taken the vehicle away. Keep the sale documents and plates afterward and contact an ICBC Autoplan broker about insurance cancellation or transfer and applicable registration obligations. The broker can advise on your circumstances; the pickup itself is not a substitute for confirming those next steps.
