The five-step pickup process

  1. Call Jay at 604-889-4470

Give the year, make and model, condition and completeness, including missing significant parts or wheels. Give the exact pickup location and explain access, whether the vehicle rolls or steers and how long it has been parked. You do not need to diagnose why it stopped starting. Jay personally serves Ladner, Tsawwassen and the listed neighbourhoods.

  2. Agree the offer and pickup arrangements

Discuss the purchase amount, confirm whether free standard towing applies to the eligible complete vehicle and arrange an available time. Special difficult recovery may require assessment and a separate cost. Say who owns the vehicle and who will attend, and confirm the necessary paperwork and authorization before booking. Do not assume a particular payment method; ask Jay what applies.

  3. Before: get the vehicle and documents ready

Remove personal belongings, locate registration or proof of ownership and valid authorization, and find keys if available. Remove plates if you can do so safely. Jay carries tools and can help with rusted, seized or stripped screws at pickup, but cannot guarantee every bolt. Advise him if access is blocked, the car has sat for years or blackberry bushes have grown over it.

  4. During: confirm, pay and load

Jay confirms the vehicle, legal seller and paperwork and checks access. The agreed price is paid before loading. A winch may be used where safe and feasible, then the vehicle is secured on an insured tow truck. Jay never drives an unsafe scrap car on public roads. Keep other people and pets away from the working area and let Jay assess the loading approach.

  5. After: retain documents and speak with your broker

Keep your plates and sale paperwork. Contact an ICBC Autoplan broker about insurance cancellation or transfer and registration obligations as appropriate to your circumstances. Do not assume the purchase or physical collection changes your insurance and registration automatically. The broker can advise on those matters, while Jay can answer questions about the vehicle sale and collection.

Before / during / after pickup

Before pickup

Have the vehicle details, registration or proof of ownership and valid authorization ready. Another person can meet the truck and give access, but cannot sell without the owner’s authority and paperwork. Remove belongings and plates if possible; Jay can help with stubborn plate screws using tools he carries, but cannot guarantee every bolt. Clear movable obstructions and describe anything you cannot safely clear. Locate keys if available and say if the vehicle is locked in park or cannot steer.

During pickup

Jay checks the description, documents, legal seller and loading route. A mouldy interior or no-start condition after years parked does not by itself lower the quote. Undisclosed missing significant parts or wheels may affect an offer made for a complete vehicle; discuss discrepancies before proceeding. Payment is made before loading. Jay assesses whether a winch can be used safely and feasibly, then secures the car on an insured tow truck. Keep people and pets clear.

After pickup

Retain the sale paperwork and plates. Contact an ICBC Autoplan broker about insurance cancellation or transfer and registration obligations that apply to you. Do not assume that the vehicle’s removal automatically settles those matters. If you have questions about the sale or pickup, speak with Jay; for the coverage and registration details, follow the broker’s advice for your circumstances.

Transported, never driven

Every purchased vehicle leaves on an insured tow truck. We don't drive unsafe or uninsured scrap cars on public roads — expired road insurance on the vehicle is fine, because the truck does the travelling.

Who needs to be there

Someone else can meet the truck to hand over keys and provide access, but the sale itself requires the owner's authorization and proper paperwork. If you won't be present, confirm the arrangements by phone in advance.
